Morning Fuel - #TBT: - Rush Hour Soul
When I first moved to DC in the early aughts , I used to listen to this thing on a CD player while I waited hours and hours on the metro. That was back when I didn’t have an iPod, shuffle or otherwise, so usually you could only pick one CD or mix CD to take with you. Even bringing a whole CD wallet was a bit too much. Despite my overplays of its phased guitar riff, there’s still so much beauty in its simplicity. The thing I always enjoyed about Supergrass’ music was the way they would wind down into almost a breakbeat of sparse guitar between choruses, only to truly go into overdrive seconds later. They may have overused the trick during their (too short) career and they certainly didn’t invent it, but here it’s used to build wonderful tension.
