Morning Fuel: Sundara Karma - Flame
The guitar work on this one is equal parts grind and bright finesse, a nice compliment to the urgent and warbly vocals. The throbbing bass beneath really makes the chorus soar. Ordinarily I don’t necessarily love this almost Vampire Weekendesque light vocals with bright guitar (did I just insult this band? Perhaps, but I didn’t necessarily mean to), but the undercurrents of distortion and growly bass show how multilayered it can be when applied directly. I don’t want to short shrift the drums either, which are there, very present, but don’t get in the way to the primal rock happening around it. This would be a great point in that Hero’s Journey for the Refusal moment, right before the hero rallies herself and does what needs to be done.
Like the track? Then buy it wherever you normally do such things and support the artist. I did. Also, here’s the Morning Fuel playlist.
