Morning Fuel: Oddisee - The Need Superficial
Add in a few swirls of disco and psychedelic soul and how can you not have something great to work with? Oddisee takes it and runs, though, letting the track bounce around and build a lattice of keyboard magic while he plows through it with a steely flow. It’s a track that does what it needs to do, says what it wants to stay, and is gone leaving you wanting more. And it did, and it made me listen to all of Oddisee’s discography I could get my hands on. I bet it’ll do the same to you. Plus, I’ve got to give it up for someone born in DC, my adoptive home. He’s the best thing to come out of here since Wale, except, (ahem,) better.
